Dozens of CFP® Professionals Provide Free Advice and Guidance on Key Personal Finance Issues
Washington DC, October 29, 2009 – We’ve all heard that there’s no free lunch, but in these challenging economic times, hundreds of attendees of AARP’s 2009 national convention were able to get free financial planning advice and guidance on October 22-24. Denver financial planner, Jeremy Davis, CFP®, joined dozens of other Certified Financial Planner™ professionals from across the country who volunteered their time and expertise to answer consumers’ financial questions at a free Financial Planning Clinic that took place at the convention, which was held in the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.
Davis was among the Certified Financial Planner™ professionals who met one-on-one with consumers to answer their individual questions on retirement planning, employee benefits, tax issues, investment strategies, estate planning and insurance, among other topics. The volunteer financial planners did not hand out business cards, sell financial products or services or follow up with attendees they meet with. AARP members, however, were provided contact information for all CFP® professionals who volunteered for the event.
AARP is the largest membership organization for people over 50 and its national convention drew over 20,000 people from around the country. Many of them stopped by the free Financial Planning Clinic to take advantage of the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a CFP® professional and address personal finance questions, concerns and interests. The Clinic came at a time when many are in urgent need of sound financial advice due to the recent economic turmoil.
The Financial Planning Clinic was organized by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board), a non-profit certifying and standards-setting organization that oversees more than 60,000 financial professionals who hold the prestigious Certified Financial Planner™ certification. Since 2006, CFP Board’s free Financial Planning Clinics around the country have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families. Post-event surveys showed that more than 95% of attendees found their experience so rewarding that they would recommend it to others.
